Another Red Dot is coming to TON. And for the first time it’s for a table

The Leaf collection from the Italian studio, E-ggs, has earned another award—its seventh in the row. The chair and table presented by TON at the Salone del Mobile trade fair last year have just been presented with the Red Dot Design Award.

“Our aim was to design a product that will be lightweight, functional, and in line with the TON philosophy and its manufacturing process,” said Gaia Giotti of the E-ggs studio. “Because the company dedicates itself to working with wood, we decided to draw inspiration from nature and trees. The sturdy foundation of the table and chairs symbolises a trunk. The light, pressed seat and backrest, on the other hand, reference leaves. Their shape can also be seen in the cross-section of the backrest,” Giotti added. 

During development, great emphasis was also placed on ergonomics and structural stability. Testing is carried out at one hundred and thirty kilograms in a cycle of almost half a million simulated sittings.  Despite its low weight, it can easily withstand the demanding environment of a restaurant as well as residential interiors. 

“We are very happy that the judges’ panel granted an award to the table as well,” remarked TON’s marketing director, Jan Juza. “It is linked with the chair by the rounded detailing at the top of the legs. Its most impressive visual element, however, is the construction of the table top,” he added. Its apron allows it to be joined with the base in a way that makes it look as if it is levitating from a number of angles. The table is available in two shapes: rectangular and round.  

The Red Dot Award for the Leaf collection is the third in TON’s history. The company received its first one in 2011 for Alexander Gufler’s Merano armchair, and its second in 2016 for the Split armchair by designer Arik Levy.
