Chips lounge chair acknowledged with a German Design Award

TON’s popular new product of 2018 – the Chips lounge chair by the Czech designer Lucie Koldová – has earned its first international award. Chips has been named Winner 2019 in the German Design Award competition.

In appraising the lounge chair, the award committee highlighted not only its original design, but also the chair’s comfort and quality craftsmanship. Chips was initially created for the Das Haus project at IMM Cologne 2018, but TON decided to refine the striking prototype to create a functional product meeting today’s high demands for comfort and stability. The resulting final version was presented at Salone del Mobile.

The Chips lounge chair was developed by the designer Lucie Koldová, who was inspired by the shape of the humble potato chip. This is evident from the oversized yet visually light backrest made from perforated fabric and framed by hand-bent wood, which also forms part of the chair base. The airy backrest stands in strong visual contrast to the roomy seat made with pocket springs and PUR foam. Seating comfort is further enhanced by an equally striking ottoman and an ergonomic pillow.

The award ceremony for the German Design Award will take place on 8 February 2019 at the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt.
