TON Painted London (in Colours) ... and Won!

The TON Stand concept, created by the young Czech designer: Tomáš Varga, won the Best Installation Prize at the Designjunction Exhibition in London. From the 24th to the 27th of September, the TON stand presented this year´s novelties – the Split and Bloom Collections. Its eye-catching colourful graded palette served as the inspiration for the whole design concept.

“The installation´s direct conjunction with the topic of Nature and natural growth within it was the inspiration on which Arik Levy buttressed his new collection for TON,” said Tomáš Varga about the presentation. “The chairs and tables looked as if they had grown out of their colourful shades, which mutually intertwined and linked the parts into a single whole. The aim was (to create) the illusion, that – in the authentic exhibition spaces of the august St. Martin´s College, the spontaneously swirled colors took on the appearance of other objects,” added Varga.

His idea was also acknowledged by the Jury of Experts – composed of designers, experts, professionals and the media. They especially acknowledged the exploitation of the available space and materials, the innovative approach to exhibiting the products, the use of graphics, and the overall stand design. “This is a brilliant example of how a simple way of thinking can shift products to other, unexpected levels. The installation borders on pure Art. It was also assisted by the masterful way in which the beams of sunlight poured through the windows, creating the impression that the chairs flew freely through the air on their own,” declared Dinah Casson, an interior designer, and one of the members of the Jury. “Tomáš Varga created this stand concept for us last year - and that for the Berlin-based DMY design festival. His idea to re-embody an old advertisement, in which two men sitting on a plank place across two chairs, into today´s embodiment – which, even then, caught the imaginations of that jury. Thanks to this, TON bought home the First Prize in the Exhibitor Category,” said Jan Juza, TON´s Marketing Director, reflecting on this prior collaboration.
