TON’s new Alba armchair has received its first prize – the German Design Award 2018

The fully upholstered Alba collection by the designer Alexander Gufler has received its first international prize. Introduced by TON at the Salone del Mobile trade fair in April 2017, the Alba armchair was named a winner in the German Design Award 2018 competition.

"We are thrilled that Alba has made an impression on our customers and also on experts in the field. The German Design Award is given only to projects considered to be pioneers in the German and international design market,” explains Jan Juza, TON’s Marketing Director. The Alba collection fills this requirement to the T – its forms are timeless, yet full of fresh details. “Alba’s defining elements are the unity of the seat and the wooden leg construction. The bottom of the backrest hugs the base of the armchair and extends well below the oval-shaped seat,” describes Alexander Gufler about his winning design. Alba is prized not only for its design, but also for its comfort. The armchair is upholstered with pocket springs and PUR foam found commonly in orthopaedic mattresses. This technology allows the seat to retain its shape and withstand heavy use, which makes it perfect for your home and for the high demands of restaurant and hotel interiors.

Gastronomy also inspired the name: Alba is a city in the Italian Piedmont region famed for its white truffles. The collection, which took two years to produce, also includes a chair and a lounge armchair.
