We’ve Won the Red Dot for Our New Collection Box

At this year’s Red Dot Design Awards, TON impressed the selection committee with products and communication materials. In mid August TON was named a Winner in the Communication Design 2018 category for the Collection Box of new catalogues and material samples. More than 8,600 projects from 45 countries competed for the award this year.

“An award is always a great confirmation that our work is heading in the right direction. We are thrilled that this recognition reflects not only our product portfolio, but also our communication strategy,” announced Jan Juza, TON’s Marketing Director. “Developing materials in the Czech Republic for a range of target groups in more than 60 countries is no small task, and it requires quite a bit of time and preparation,” added Juza. Work on the new catalogue and Collection Box, which was launched on 17 April 2018 at Salone del Mobile, began just a few months after the publication of the previous catalogue, in autumn 2016.

The graphic look is the work of the Prague-based studio Marvil, specifically Pavel Zelenka, Jiří Karásek and Tereza Pavelková. The look builds on the two previous editions. The reader should be able to clearly imagine TON’s product portfolio and choice of available materials, and to get to know the brand, its philosophy and values. For this edition, TON invited the photographer Dušan Tománek to contribute to the visual look and feel through his scene-setting images. These capture the atmosphere of the production process and the surrounding landscape in the spirit of steampunk, a genre with steam at its core, just like TON’s technique of bending wood by hand. The product images are the work of Martin Chum and were taken in TON’s original production workshops. Styling was done by Michaela Tomišková, whose selection of lights and accessories incorporated into the catalogue a wide range of mainly Czech designers and brands. The third photographer, who worked on the floating product images, was Lukáš Pelech.

The Collection Box includes examples of colour finishing on available wood options, all fabric swatches, TON’s main product catalogue, and a catalogue featuring TON products in projects undertaken by various architects and designers.
