Alexander Gufler
Alexander Gufler, an Austrian designer with Italian roots, is known for his
ability to combine sophistication and practicality. He has created a number of
iconic designs for Ton, including the Merano collection, which includes chairs,
bar stools, armchairs and lounge armchairs. This collection has been recognised
for its aesthetics, as well as its ergonomics, and has been awarded in
competitions such as the German Design Award. Other notable products include the
Albu collection, the La Zitta chairs, the Stelvio, Lasu and YYY tables, and the
Again chair, which combines simplicity with distinctive design.
Gufler’s designs are characterised by clean lines, thoughtful details and
respect for the traditional craft of wood bending.
Awards:
The Merano chair won the Red Dot Design Award 2011 as the winner in the Product
Design category and subsequently the Good Design Award 2012. In 2014 it was
nominated for the German Design Award.
The Merano chair was awarded the iF Design Award 2015 and received a special
mention in the German Design Award 2015. In 2014 it was named chair of the
year in the Dolce Vita Best of 2014 awards.
The Merano bar stool received the iF Design Award 2015 and a special mention in
the German Design Award 2015.
The Albu armchair was awarded the 2018 Red Dot Design Award as the winner in
the Product Design category, as well as the Good Design Award 2017, the German
Design Award 2018 and the Designblok Editors’ Prize 2017 as the best new
furniture. It also won the title of Furniture of the Year 2018 and was awarded
in the EDIDA CZ competition as the best seating furniture.
The Albu chair won the Good Design Award 2017 and the title of Furniture of the
Year 2018.
The Albu lounge armchair was awarded the Good Design Award 2017 and the title
of Furniture of the Year 2018.
The YYY coffee tables won the Good Design Award 2019 as the winner in the
Furniture Design category and the iF Design Award 2020.
Stelvio tables were nominated for the German Design Award 2015.
