A new classic designed with emotion
by Patrick Norguet.
Czech bentwood furniture manufacturer Ton is launching its new Cissy lounge chair. Designed by French designer Patrick Norguet, it combines comfort, a striking silhouette and the traditional craftsmanship for which the brand is known.
The Cissy chair is designed to naturally mould to the body. It uses layered upholstery, designed separately for the seat and back, resulting in soft ergonomics and a softness that adapts to the body. The armrest is made from a single piece of bent wood - a technically demanding detail that defines the look of the entire chair. In the leather version, the upholstery is deliberately wrinkled to emphasise the relaxed and natural character. The fabric version replicates this effect with its texture. The chair is available with a high or low back and footrest.
"Cissy is an important milestone for us - it is the first lounge chair in our portfolio. It will be the flagship of our lounge furniture category and we have set a high standard in terms of comfort, craftsmanship and design. Working with Patrick Norguet was very natural - from the beginning we shared the same respect for craftsmanship and sense of form. The result is a product that fits into our DNA, but also takes us further," says Milan Dostalík, CEO of Ton, explaining the collaboration and the need for a new product.
The name of the chair refers to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's portrait of Cissy
Loftus. Like the sketch, the chair is delicate, calm and serene. A new classic
that doesn't try to draw attention to itself – but still catches the eye.
Along with this new product, Ton is also introducing a new Seasonal Mix –
four new combinations of fabrics and leathers selected by Patrick Norguet
himself. It uses tried and tested materials and selected colours – peach,
water, gold and green – to combine subtle freshness with timeless elegance.
Each combination is matched with a matching wood stain.
Patrick Norguet is an internationally renowned French designer who, after
studying in Paris and spending two years at Louis Vuitton, set up his own studio
in 2000. His career began with the Rainbow chair for Cappellini, which became
part of the MoMA collection.
"Bending wood is key for Ton. It was clear from the beginning that I wanted to work with this technique. It's an old technique, but it's incredibly timeless. I wanted to make the most of it, like when a chef takes an ingredient and takes it to another level."
